Filipinos in Virginia Beach, Va., Will kick off October – Philippine American History Month this weekend, starting Saturday, October 2 at Mt. Trashmore Park.
Mayor Bobby Dyer will greet the crowd at noon. There will be a show, Filipino folk dances and lots of food and music.
Virginia Beach has the largest Filipino population at Hampton Roads and is home to the Virginia Philippine Cultural Center in Kempsville.
Chicago comedian Erick Esteban and SNRG (Some Never Really Get) hip-hop artists from Northern Virginia will have fun on Saturday.
Guests will also learn about a historic landmark in Virginia Beach that will honor the legacy of members of the Philippine Navy who settled at Hampton Roads.
The Buko Resto-Bar food truck will serve Filipino street food. Bambu and Maria & Isabel will offer desserts.
Local churches will lead the events on Sunday morning. Shadowlawn Eats Restaurant will bring lumpia for the Lumpia Eating Contest. The winner’s name will be inscribed on a champion’s belt.
